Grand Prismatic Spring. Yellowstone National Park. Located in Midway Geyser Basin.
Ever since my last visit to Yellowstone, I want to capture the beauty of Grand Prismatic Spring and its colors. This time around, I was determined to find the location where I can take the picture above the spring. My girlfriend and I hiked 6 miles roundtrip (later we learned that there was a shorter hike) to take this picture. On the way there AND back, we had a standoff with bison on each side of the trail. We were probably 10 yards away from one of them, but glad that they were not disturbed by our presence!
The vivid colors are result of bacteria that grow on the edges of mineral rich water.
